How Laser Hair Removal Works
Laser hair removal uses light energy to target pigment in the hair follicle. The energy heats the follicle, helping reduce future hair growth.
Because hair grows in cycles, multiple treatments are needed. Most clients need a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart for the best results.
Most clients need at least 6 treatments, though some areas may require more. Hormonal areas such as the face, chin, jawline, Brazilian area, and stomach may need additional sessions or maintenance.
Your treatment plan will depend on:
Hair color
Hair thickness
Skin tone
Treatment area
Hormones
Consistency with appointments
Previous waxing or laser treatments
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Laser Hair Removal for Ingrown Hairs
If you struggle with ingrown hairs, laser hair removal may be one of the best treatment options. By reducing the amount and thickness of the hair, laser hair removal can help minimize the cycle of shaving irritation, trapped hairs, and razor bumps.
This is especially helpful for the bikini area, Brazilian area, underarms, neck, chin, and jawline.
Laser Hair Removal for Men in Glendale
Laser hair removal is also popular for men who want to reduce unwanted hair on the back, chest, stomach, shoulders, neckline, beard line, arms, or legs.
Common reasons men choose laser hair removal include:
Reducing back hair
Cleaning up the neckline
Reducing chest or stomach hair
Treating shaving bumps
Creating a cleaner beard line
Lowering grooming maintenance
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Before treatment, your provider will review your skin, hair, medical history, and goals. The treatment area should be shaved before your appointment.
During treatment, you may feel a quick snapping or warm sensation. Most appointments are very tolerable and relatively quick depending on the size of the area.
After treatment, mild redness or warmth is normal and usually fades quickly.
Before Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment
For best results:
Shave the treatment area 12–24 hours before your visit
Avoid waxing, plucking, or threading before treatment
Avoid tanning and self-tanner
Avoid sunburn on the treatment area
Arrive with clean skin
Tell your provider about medications, retinol use, or skin sensitivity
After laser hair removal, avoid excessive heat, hot tubs, saunas, intense workouts, and direct sun exposure for the recommended amount of time. Use SPF on exposed areas and avoid irritating products until the skin feels calm.
Hair may shed over the next 1–3 weeks. This is normal.

Laser Hair Removal Pre-Care
Avoid laser hair removal if pregnant or nursing
Shave the area to be treated with laser 1-2 days prior to your appointment. You can shave as often as desired between laser treatments.
Discontinue waxing, tweezing, threading, depilatories and electrolysis for at least 3 weeks prior to your treatment and throughout treatment.
Stop retinoids 2 weeks prior to your treatment unless otherwise advised.
Avoid applying makeup on the day of treatment if getting laser hair removal on the face.
Avoid tanning prior to your treatment. Any patient with a significant tan or sunburn may be rescheduled due to the sensitivity of the procedure to altered skin color and for the sake of your own safety.
If you have a history of cold sores, please let the provider know.
Caution is advised to persons with a history of herpes in the treatment area. Those who carry the herpes virus and receive laser treatment on their upper lip, chin, or lower cheeks may have a “flare-up” of their condition. The risk of this complication can be reduced if you take prescribed antiviral medication in the office on the day of your treatment, which we can provide to you. If you have an active herpes outbreak, your appointment will have to be rescheduled.
Laser Hair Removal Post-Care
The treatment area is very delicate and should be treated gently. It is common to experience slight swelling and redness at the treatment site.
Avoid direct sun exposure to treated areas for at least one-week post-treatment and all signs of redness and irritation have subsided. Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 daily, and reapply as directed.
Avoid trauma to the treatment area such as scratching, picking, or rubbing.
Avoid pools, hot tubs, jacuzzis, saunas, and steam rooms for 3 days.
Avoid any deep exfoliation treatments or creams containing a chemical exfoliator for 2 weeks pre and post-treatment such as microdermabrasion, retinoids, or glycolic acid.
You may apply cold compresses or ice packs to the treated area to ease discomfort.
