A Safety-First Guide for Laser & Light-Based Treatments

A Safety-First Guide for Laser & Light-Based Treatments

At Denver Dream Med Spa, we use a customized skin typing system based on the Fitzpatrick Scale — enhanced with laser-specific safety considerations and Denver climate factors.

This allows us to personalize every laser treatment for maximum safety, comfort, and results.

Important: Skin type is determined by how your skin behaves, not your ethnicity or background.

🏔️ Denver-Specific Adjustment (Unique to Our Scale)

Because Denver’s high altitude increases UV exposure:

  • Recent sun exposure can temporarily change laser safety — even if your baseline skin type doesn’t change

  • We may delay or modify treatments seasonally

  • SPF use is mandatory for all skin types

This is why every laser appointment includes a skin reassessment, not assumptions.

Why We Don’t Use “One-Setting” Laser Treatments

Your skin type determines:

  • Laser wavelength

  • Energy level

  • Cooling method

  • Treatment spacing

Using the same settings for every client increases risk and reduces results.
Our approach prioritizes skin health first — results second.

How This Scale Is Used at Denver Dream Med Spa

We use this scale to:

  • Determine candidacy

  • Select appropriate laser technology

  • Customize treatment plans

  • Reduce pigmentation risks

  • Improve long-term outcomes

It is a living assessment, updated as your skin changes.

Laser Skin Typing FAQs

  • Your baseline type stays the same, but tanning, irritation, or inflammation can temporarily affect treatment decisions.

  • No. Skin typing is based on skin behavior, not race or ethnicity.

  • No. It means treatments must be performed differently — not avoided.

Your Skin Deserves a Personalized Approach

Laser treatments should never feel rushed or standardized. Understanding your skin type ensures your treatments are safe, effective, and respectful of your skin’s biology.
